For months now we the viewing public have been treated to a presidential campaign from both sides that have been nothing more than an over hyped, over played Disney cartoon.
Donald Trump playing the role of Heroic Prince/Villain and Hillary Clinton cast in the role of Princess/Witch depending on what side or indeed which news outlet you choose to follow. Both candidates choosing to make a meal out of all the plaudits and insults that are aimed in their direction thus helping them play the role in which they’ve been cast to greater affect (The Embattled Woman and the Misunderstood Misogynist).
Due to this the American Elecorate has fallen into two categories, no not Democrat and Republican but Disillusioned and Delusional. The disillusioned have Seen their numbers rise due to witnessing the way the interests of big business have not only eroded the plight of the individual, but have also been bailed out/propped up and even rewarded rather than being allowed to “fail”. This coupled with seeing how their “democratically” elected representatives have become, at best stringed puppets and at worse inflatable sex dolls, either to be controlled or “played” with by the rich and powerful, this having an enormous effect, creating a void or gulf between those who wish to be led and those who wish to lead.
In this gulf (power vacuum) where the ideals of the delusional can take seed and grow (in the Middle East it would be described as a “hot bed” for fanaticism yet in the West it’s called good old Patriotism) up steps the Saviour. With their vacuous bluster, this person can promise the earth safely knowing that their audience are so enthralled that it doesn’t matter if they only deliver dirt. From this then we are left with one candidate that is no more than a “reality” TV “star” and the other that needs a reality check (who has been paid a reality cheque?).
What of the alternative?
No not this patsy who has been put forward to reinforce the idea of the perfect two party system, with anything alternative seen as a waste of time and effort.
These campaigns will be consigned to history (the sooner the better) as the most personal, vile, venomous and infantile of all time due to the nature and character of those taking part and the prize on offer, but we say sometimes the greatest lie are the ones that are in plain view
As the world goes down the tubes due to the effects of global warming, war and the displacement of millions the misinformation machine has been set to overdrive and instead of trying to come out with policies that may alleviate some of the worlds problems they have instead chosen sound bites that are lapped up by the braying crowd (now officially recognised as the “He said, She said” approach). We at the Guff refuse to dip our toe into this steaming cesspool and instead implore not just the American people but everyone everywhere to take stock and take note of the character of those who wish to put themselves forward to “represent” the people and ask why do they want to represent and whom do they represent? We say again, we are not beast of burden having to be led, we are all individuals who have apart to play in the complexities of life no matter how small one is made to feel. We speak not as Socialists nor as Capitalists but as Realists, remember then that the power in the people is greater than the people in power. Those in power who wish to view us from their ivory towers as mere ants slaving away should not underestimate us or indeed dismiss us (We started with Disney, let us end with Disney)
