Is Ageism the new Racism?

With the recent defeat of John McCririck losing to a channel that has equality embedded in it’s foundation (now preferring to exploit everyone from the Traveller community to those on benefits in equal measure in the pursuit of equality and ratings) and the less recent victory of Miriam O’Reilly against the BBC in 2010 we ask “Is it this case in particular that’s fuelled the meteoric rise of the “National treasure” Mary Berry”? Now I’m not saying Mary isn’t good at what she does or that she’s less deserving of her place on the box than those pretty things (male and female) that purport cuisine as porn or visa versa. But as someone who grew up in the late 60’s and 70’s I just find it strange that I’ve not heard of Mary until recently (just after Miriam’s case in fact) and thus wondered where the Beeb had dug her up from (meaning where has she been hiding all these years and not that she had been buried being a long time gone).

As someone who appeals to the “Great British” Public (and Daily Malice readers), it truly is refreshing to see a judge on TV that’s on there for their merit (Mary being the author of many a cook book) rather than their perceived good looks or their acidic wit. Next Week we ask is “60 the new 40” (it will be if this government has its way) and “Is Tokenism more than just a gesture”.
