So here we are with the penultimate serving from the “Who Knew” series, featuring the bit player Kim Jong Un. Although some would have us believe that Kim Jong Un is a wrong ‘un (assassinating his brother, taking over the family business, tyranical ruler etc etc) we at the Guff feel the importance and indeed the size of his role on the world stage has been somewhat overplayed, overstated and exaggerated to such a degree that it’s become almost hammy. Kim and Don would like the world to believe that their meeting is of great importance, billing it as a Cecil B Demille epic when the truth of the matter is, it’s a B movie at best or a school play at worse. We are not disputing that this “man” who was privately educated in the West (Switzerland to be precise) referred to as Jin San Pang (Kim Fatty the third) by the Chinese and has nuclear weapons at his disposal is dangerous but we would dispute not only how dangerous but ask how has the danger levels been increased as of late? Is it because someone has directed him to be so and if so who?
Kim has indeed learned his lines and played his part as the villain quite well (in a James Bondesq megalomaniac kind of way) so much in fact that you could quite easily forget that he’s just an overweight, spoilt little rich kid playing the baddie for kicks (just as his US counterpart although somewhat older is also a spoilt little rich kid playing President for kicks).
The following footage from an Australian news bulletin sums up the world view of Kim and North Korea, here they mention that although Kim’s nuclear facilities are not what they were, the world is still unsure what they actually are.
With some clever directing/animation and sleight of hand Kim Jong Un has what some would like us to believe become a Global Statesman but again we at the Guff beg to differ. Kim would like to be thought of as fearsome as his Father and Grandfather or as respected as Chairman Mao but alas the world has since changed and the attention span of the individual has dwindled, no longer fearful of those that were considered world changing or world threatening. As the image used at the header of this article suggests Kim is more like a Disney Villain, carefully created by hands we the audience will never see, an animated leader that is more akin to the screen than he is the global stage, a mouse rather than a Mao, one that has found himself transfixed in the glare of the limelight unable to retreat to the darkness of his hole and back to self imposed obscurity.
Here we see Don (minus bone spurs) meeting Kim and doing some good moaning in Vietnam, the strange thing about this clip is again how Donald seems to be directed by someone unseen to do most of the talking and how Kim has not been given many lines, playing the bit part very well as Don tries to string his sentences together (coincidentally the headlines going across the bottom of the screen showing the potential for real war as tensions between nuclear powers Pakistan and India escalate). Will the world get to see Kim and Don meet with the South Korean leader in his Capital city and when/if they do will they then take a deep breath and think “Ah Seoul”?
The last word from Don sums up his attitude toward the everyday person on the street compared to the very rich and powerful ruling Despots he should be holding to account.
Whilst Donald continues to try and worm his way out of trouble and worms his way deeper into the hearts and minds of the American people (by any means necessary) the following clip shows how the other half live in North Korea. Quite the opposite of their well fed leader, these unfortunate people don’t even have to wait to die before the worms start feeding. Like the poor in many a nation (the US included) it’s not the parasites in the stomach that’ll kill you but the ones in suits.
