When you hear it like that, it sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Well scripted well performed well what a load of boll*cks.
Having put the country on a war footing and making the Coronavirus into the evil enemy on par with the marauding hordes of Genghis Khan (or to suit the self-created Churchillian mantra of Boris) the Nazis, the Government of Boris Johnson (now dethroned) and Rishi Sunak (now throned) used the situation to their advantage. With the horrors of the pandemic in other countries being played out live on our TV screens (ICU wards filled to the brim, people dying in corridors, doctors and nurses at the frontline exhausted and in many, many cases dying whilst doing their job) it was decided that the call of “Protect the NHS” should reverberate not only in the corridors of power but also around the nation. Looking back, the call was as empty-handed as their clapping. The plan they devised was not to protect but to project the sense that they were indeed willing to do anything and everything. Their way of “Protecting” was to send elderly people suffering from COVID-19, not to the hospital (although it has now been proven that is where many had caught it) but instead back to their under-resourced, unprepared care homes (the equivalent of tossing a grenade into an air raid shelter). Unmoved by the devastating effects (the thousands of deaths) on a sector that has been underfunded for many years, the Government continued with the charade of using the health service as a flak jacket. Now, barely three years later, having gone through what many who lived through it (staff at the frontline) and continue to live with it (families who lost loved ones) can describe as one of the worst moments of their lives, we have a government who will manage to not only find “the magic money tree” but the whole forest, when it suits them (HS2 for example) whilst giving those working in the public sector splinters rather than paying them what they truly deserve.
So, without further ado we’d like to present the following clip and thank Rishi for giving us the clap (whilst screwing us over).
